alternative health project of the community

Ezatlán, Jalisco, Mexico

return

This project is based on the following facts:

  • Poor people need medical care.
  • There are no doctors to visit these distant communities, which therefore receive very little medical attention.
  • There is a lack of any type of medicine.
  • Medical consultation is very expensive.

Alternative health is an excellent way of dealing with this state of affairs. People can learn in a simple, low-cost way to produce their own remedies from plants.

There are various stages in the work of the project. This first stage is long and slow, and consists of:

  • Visiting the distant communities, where there is little chance of reaching any health centre or hospital.
  • Motivating the people and bringing them together, encouraging them to take an interest in this kind of training.
  • Training people who show interest.
  • Holding periodical training sessions so that people who are motivated can learn all about plants, their properties and how to use them.

At the same time they are learning to know the body and its different systems, and to use the various alternative remedies we rely on, such as reflex therapy, acupuncture, auriculotherapy [acupuncture by laser, needle or electrostimulation of the ear], microdosis [natural substances used in small doses], tinctures, shiatsu, etc.

In these training sessions they come to know Jesus as One who helps them to acquire and maintain a spirit of service, of loyalty to the group, of love, justice and peace, and invites them to build the Kingdom of God on earth in the here and now, with specific actions to help those who live in the most isolated places.

They are helped to understand the real circumstances of their lives, and how they can be attentive to render service that helps their people.

They often know nothing of their rights as workers and within the family; here they learn about these rights.

Funds we receive are used for:
1. Transport.
2. Consultation fees for some doctors.
3. The material I use for the training sessions.
4. Meetings and workshops.

At present there are 10 groups in 8 different communities.
