Florence de la Villeon rscj, province of Belgium/France/Netherlands
I completed my final year of Secondary at the Collège du Sacré Cœur, Nantes, because I had been (sent away from my Lycée, and my mother, who had already had that experience with two of my sisters said: “With such a school report, no one will accept you into the Final year. There is only one institution where we might succeed in having you enrolled, that is the Sacred Heart of Nantes” where in fact my two sisters had landed), under the same conditions!
Adelheid von dem Hagen rscj, province of Central Europe
I was brought up as third child in a very happy and united Catholic family who lived in the country in the east part of Germany that now is in Poland. My mother had a very strong faith, which she wanted to pass on to us. I remember very well the day of my First Communion - I was 7 years old - it was the feast of the Ascension of the Lord. The congregation were singing a song which touched my heart deeply: ”open the doors for the King, who will enter His Kingdom”. Yes this I wanted: to open my heart wide for the Lord.
Lisa Buscher rscj, province of the United States
You never know what one kind act will do for a person, yet, in an instant, lives of generations can be transformed forever. My grandmother is a beautiful example of this. When she wanted to go to the University to become a teacher it was only through the generous gift of $50.00 from an acquaintance that she was able to fulfill her dream. She became a teacher as did her son, my father and so thus I learned through my family the transforming power of education. This one kind act has influenced and impacted my life forever.
Elizabeth Aracy Rondon Amarante rscj, province of Brazil
There were 23 of the Myky when they were discovered in the wild in 1971, in the north-east of the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Today, the Myky number 103, more than half of whom are under 12 years old.
Leonor Calle Botero rscj, province of Colombia
I was born into a very happy home in Manizales (Colombia) on 6th September 1935. I’m the youngest of 6. Our two brothers are waiting for us in heaven, 2 of our sisters are great grandmothers already, and Inés is an RSCJ; I’m lucky enough to be in community with her at present.
Rebecca Loukae rscj, Province of Uganda - Kenya
I was born in Moroto town in Karamoja, Uganda, where my father worked as a teacher. Later he changed his profession, becoming a prison warder. Because of this job, he was transferred to other districts. My primary education took place in other provinces and in other languages – experiences which remain very much a part of my life.
Françoise Cassiers rscj, Province of Belgium - Netherlands
If my life were a book, I would call it “Love where the Rivers Meet”. I have often had the sensation of being at the meeting-point between two divergent, sometimes contradictory, realities: an uncomfortable place to be, but Love has always been with me.
