As religious of the Sacred Heart we experienced it in a special way, since our house at Poznań, Mielżyńskiego Street, was where all the preparations were made. From the middle of September, the Taizé Brothers, the Sisters of St Andrew, the Ursuline Sisters and an international team of young volunteers were in Poznan for the final stage of preparations. Our house was full of young people who helped the Brothers to organise the event.

Our Sisters took part in many preparatory meetings. Boguslawa Fijołek rscj arrived two days earlier with young people from Tarnów to join the working group. Violetta Zając rscj came with a group of students from Warsaw. Lidia Gołębiewicz nscj, our novice from Marki, was one of those responsible for the organisation of the morning sessions in Holy Redeemer Parish. The Sisters from Pobiedziska were involved in preparation in their parish and welcomed the young people into their community.

During the Meeting itself, more than 10 RSCJ were involved in the workshops and in evening prayer. At Poznań, 30,000 young people deepened their trust in God and shared their experience.

About 100 young people from the Ukraine, Lithuania, Italy, France and Poland came to Pobiedziska, which is about 20 km from Poznań. The two parish churches in our town were named as assembly-points where the young people could be allotted to groups.

As RSCJ, we were involved in organising the meetings. We took part in the daily Eucharist and prayers. As far as possible we also helped with group-work and with translation.

In hour house, at Pobiedziska.

On Thursday 31st December we welcomed a group of about 30 people into our house at Pobiedziska. We told them about our Society and about the youth groups organised each year by Father Jan Góra at Lednica (not far from Pobiedziska). The meeting ended with refreshments in a school classroom. In spite of our language differences, the atmosphere among us was very happy and friendly.

I took part in the European Youth Meeting at Poznań, with the young people from the Academic Pastoral Group, St James’s Parish in Warsaw. There were people with disabilities in our group. I found out what it means to belong to the Universal Church, with its different cultures, beliefs, religions, in which everyone finds a place, including the most vulnerable. In my sharing group there were disabled people from L’Arche Community in France. I experienced silent prayer in a multicultural crowd, as well as joy, celebration, and listening to what young people want, I am convinced that by taking part in this meeting, I was in the right place as a Religious of the Sacred Heart.

While staying in my family home in Poznań I attended several meetings of the youth assembly. It was a great joy to be able to meet our Sisters from Tarnów, Poznań, Pobiedziska, Warsaw and Marki who were involved in the assembly. How marvellous it is to be together and to take part together in God’s great works.
