At this Regional Heads' Meeting, we had presentations of each school, which made us feel the richness of the international family of the Society of the Sacred Heart and confirmed that we are all following the vision of St. Madeleine Sophie in today's world.

One session was given to the sharing of the General Chapter of the Society of the Sacred Heart held in summer 2008 in Lima, Peru. Sr. Kim Sook Hee and Sr. Mieko Uno shared their experiences of the General Chapter, and explained the five priorities in detail. As we have fewer RSCJs working in the school, it is of high importance to share with our collaborators what our priorities are in the Society now.

‘Globalization and Ecology' was the theme of the Regional Heads' Meeting 2009. We had Dr. Yugo Ono as our guest speaker. He is a Professor at the Graduate School of Environmental Science, Hokkaido University, Japan. His special field is Geography, Environmental Science,
Geo-ecology, and an activist of conservation of nature and the re-instatement movement of Ainu peoples.

We shared what each school had been doing in regard to the ecology issues. Dr. Ono gave us questions for discussion beforehand, answers to which each school shared, which was enriching and challenging. Here are the questions. On the day of his talk, we invited some teachers from other Sacred Heart schools in Japan.

What have you included in your curriculum specially to respond to "Globalization and Ecology" issues?

  • UN declaration on Indigenous Peoples Rights adopted in 2007 is a historical milestone for Indigenous people of the world. What kind of education on indigenous peoples' issues have you attempted? And what can we do to improve and safeguard the rights of indigenous people, especially after this historical change?
  • Reduction of CO2 level is an urgent demand for our society. What has your school done to help solve this issue? Has your school introduced any kind of reproductive strategy, or made any efforts to reduce energy consumption?
  • How should our Christian message be sent most effectively to other students and citizens in relation to "globalization and ecological issues"?

Through his talk and discussion, we had a deeper understanding of the situation we are in today and shared what we could do to help our students to become responsible citizens of the world today and of the world to come.

On the last day of this meeting we spent some time together to help the Taiwan Team to prepare the 4th International Heads' Meeting 2011 in Taipei.
