Page 6 of 7 March 26: Fourth Sunday of LentPrayer of the colours: green another chance for new energy Georgie Blaeser rscj Energy, as we say, is the ability to do something and there are three types of energy -physical, mental and spiritual. This week we tap into the spiritual energy that enables us to let go of hatred, mistrust and misunderstanding, to express our feelings of kindness, to reestablish friendships to be open and generous and to integrate our bodies in our loving and our loving in a bodily, or incarnate, way. Compassionate love, or energy, is central to the Jesus or Christian way. Love is his single commandment, the wellspring of his life, the basis of his community and the key to the Reign of God. These spiritual gifts, fruit of the Spirit are sources of energy, and it’s good to recognise, use and develop to be fully effective. We need to be aware of these energies in our lives. During each week of Lent, we will focus on the key kinds of spiritual energies we need and use, and on the colour associated with each one. This week, we focus on the energy of compassion or caring love, often symbolized by the colour green We see and recognise this energy in our ability to be interpersonal, to react emotionally, to be thoughtful, to reach out in friendship, to empathise, to be generous We also use this energy in our ability to experience oneness with people, animals, and nature It’s the energy associated with the heart. To be aware of our need for energies related to compassion, it may help, and we invite you this week to focus on the colour green. to think green during your day, week. to wear something green, to maybe add green to the décor of your room, to notice people who wear green. to open your hearts to the colour green in nature all around you. Whenever you connect with something green, consciously in prayer, invite the compassionate/life energy you need to flow in you. Let the colour green, wherever you see it, alert you to open yourself to the life-enhancing energies – the Spirit- who keeps us alive. Eileen Lawless rscj Province of Ireland - Scotland
