Prayer of the colours: orange another chance to revive our energy Irma Dillard rscj As we continue this Lent to connect with God through colour, this week we tap into the spiritual energy that enables us to understand our true worth, to see ourselves, and therefore others also, as worthwhile, valuable and unique to have a positive self-image, to say “I am” or “I exist” and to affirm the integration of our body, mind and spirit. This is the energy of Self-Affirmation and Self-Awareness. Without this energy we burn out, and are unable to go out to anyone. We de-value ourselves and life. We settle for living a role – being a “good father/mother” a good daughter or son, a “nice person” rather than being a whole person – who we really are. This energy is a gift of the Spirit. It’s good to recognise it, use it and develop it in our lives. We need to be aware of this energy all around us. During each of the weeks of Lent, we said we would focus on the different spiritual energies we need and use, and on the colour associated with each one. So this week we focus on the energy of self-awareness and self affirmation symbolised by the colour orange. We use this energy when we don’t give in to feelings of unworthiness we don’t avoid approaching God in prayer or the sacraments we don’t let go of human relationships. We use this energy when we do meet struggle or conflict. when we do trust our gut feelings. To be aware of our need for the energies related to this gift we invite you this week to focus on the colour orange: (Orange is more difficult to find than other colours.) Soak in orange in carrots satsumas or oranges, in orange flowers, in orange colour books, or clothes. Use an orange towel Carry with you some little orange coloured thing you can touch and look at from time to time. Each time the colour orange makes you aware that you need the energy of self-affirmation, let yourself say a short prayer that you be open to receive this energy. Let yourself feel a longing for awareness of your value and uniqueness This way we can really worship God, by valuing the gift s/he has made us, to ourselves and to the world.
