Longing

Carry this longing into the world
Live out of the strength of Bethlehem
discover the divine child within me
in my capacities
in my inner fire
in my mission

Live out of the strength of Bethlehem
discover the stable within myself
in my dark side
in my limitations
in my capacity to change

Live out of the strength of Bethlehem
discover the manger within myself
the wholesome emptiness
the holy space within me
which will be filled by God's presence

Live out of the strength of Bethlehem
Share bread and wine
Deepest combined longing:
I am the self I will become

 Listening to Christmas

Have you ever heard snow?
Not the howling wind of a blizzard,
not the crackling of snow underfoot,
but the actual falling of snow.

We heard it one night
quite unexpectedly
while walking up the hill
toward the SOURCE up in the hills,
a soft whisper between footsteps.
We stopped und just listened.
All around us in the darkness
we heard the gentle fall
of snow on snow.
No wind. No sound
but the snow.

Have you ever heard Christmas?
Not the traffic noises in the city,
not the bells, hymns and carols,
beautiful as they are,
not even the laughter of the children
as they open their presents
But Christmas itself.
