26 December : Tsunami reflection

The tsunami happened at Christmas time.  Among the facts remembered at Christmas is that all boy-children under two years old of a particular group were slaughtered.
Today, homeless refugees are turned away from our shores to go God knows where.
In meditation, what do I do with the thought of being faced with totally overwhelming destructive powers, all-encompassing fear and distress beyond description suffered by others, by another?
Nothing: there is nothing I can do.
I just let myself be swamped for a moment by compassion for the victims  ...  that's all ... for a moment, in my prayer, I feel for you ...
And I find I leave my prayer-time filled with love.  I love the whole bloody mess.
