The 29th July at 12 noon is a moment that the Religious of Uganda will use to exercise their voice on behalf of the suffering of our land. At 12.00 noon on Thursday next, we have an appointment with the Speaker of Parliament to present a memorandum about the situation in the North of Uganda and the other issues brought out in the Bishops’ Easter Letter. The Speaker has accepted to meet 10 (only) Religious together with 10 MPs (Heads of Parliamentary Committees). The media will be invited by the Speaker. The Programme of the 29th July We invite as many Religious as possible to take part. We need to be seen as well as heard! We will meet at Christ the King Church at 11am for a prayer service. We will then proceed to the Parliament for 12 noon meeting. After the Parliament we will return to Christ the King for Eucharist and a reading of the memorandum to the congregation. Lunch: many will choose to fast on that day. Quite understandable not all will do so. Please take your own sandwiches. Our day will end with a walk to the Irish Embassy to arrive at 3pm to meet a few representatives of the International Donor Community. The ARU-JPIC Commission would like as many religious as possible to be present for this event, though only ten will be allowed to enter parliament. Sister Theresa Namataka, (Sisters of Mary) in charge of the Education Desk at ARU and Fr. Daudi, the Prior of the Benedictines (Totoro) were chosen by the Major Superiors to be the spokes-people and they will present the memorandum and answer questions. We chose 10 Religious to enter the Parliament. These 10 will gather at Lourdel House on the 28th July at 7pm to rehearse and practice answering the likely questions to come from the Parliamentarians and the media. A media teacher from Makerere will coach us. Please: - Pass on this message to any and all religious in your neighbourhood
- Pray and fast with us on that day: 29th July
- Try by all means to participate on the day.
