Sophia Commission

Sophia is holy wisdom. We three members of the Sophia Commission are not the source of such wisdom but our task is to help focus the collective wisdom and energy of the Society and the many collaborators, alumnae and friends who work with us to transform our world. As we begin our work here in Rome we count on your prayers.

The initial weeks have been filled with the practicalities of setting up an office and beginning to work as a team. Our conversations have been a mixture of Spanish and English accompanied with a healthy dose of laughter. We had the opportunity to meet twice with the Central Team before they began province visits. There have also been other important meetings such as those with the International Finance Commission, the Secretary General, the archivist, and the person in charge of the international web page, that have helped us continue to clarify our role and establish procedures. The Villa and Trinita communities have welcomed us and we have had the opportunity to meet two groups of probanists. Like sponges we are absorbing all the wonderful new experiences each day presents.

In this first month we have begun to attend inter-congregational JCIP meetings. A letter has been written to Provincials requesting information that will help us become more aware of the various committees and commissions within each province. We are also preparing to participate in several regional education meetings that will take place later in the year.
