Our searching and reflection has a great deal to do with life and with relationships

Yesterday we took up again the work on the different centres of interest. I’m in the group working on “Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation with the most vulnerable people”, and yesterday nature was on our side. There was splendid sunshine in the morning, and without exaggerating, it was about 25 days since we had seen anything of the sort. Light brightens everything, and brought joy, helping us to return to the group process; we had left it in Sophie’s hands some days before, so that it could breathe, like good wine.

Our searching and reflection has a great deal to do with life and with relationships. We are becoming increasingly aware that everyone is interconnected with everything, and that the challenge is to go on discovering “new forms of relationship” within ourselves, with one another, with others, with things and with nature, and living them day by day.

I feel we humans can no longer believe that we are the centre of the world, using things as we please, setting no limits on our ways of relating to nature. We already know what happens when we act according to this paradigm: uneven distribution of resources, exploitation of people and of nature, injustice, exclusion, violence, destruction and death.

This is the challenge for each person, community and group: how to live relationships of equality, inclusiveness, non-violence and harmony; how to mould our hearts and attitudes in an intercultural world, a world of migration; how to make use of things, non-renewable and natural resources, so that besides fostering, defending and nourishing life, we may finally succeed in honouring it.

Throughout these days, I have had a growing conviction that Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation are a visible expression of our spirituality; they cut across every dimension of our life and are criteria of discernment in choosing our relationships, lifestyle, apostolic commitments and projects.

What I ask, what I desire for everyone is that we may commit ourselves with greater passion and compassion to the search for justice, peace and integrity of creation.
