0803news1.jpgJanuary 26, 2008 was a day of joy and pride for the sisters of the Society of the Sacred Heart, Indian Province, and the staff and students of Sophia College for Women, Mumbai, and of CWD, Torpa. We were very happy and proud that Sr. Karuna Mary Braganza (Principal of Sophia College for Women 1965-1973 and 1977-1982, Secretary of AIACHE 1982-1988, Director of the Centre for Women’s Development at Torpa till 2000 and Director of SCESA 2001-2006) had been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contribution in the field of Social Work. The Padma Shri is an extremely prestigious national award, presented in recognition of considerable achievement and contribution in various fields. This was the first time that an RSCJ of the Indian Province had received this award, and our hearts were filled with praise and thanksgiving for our sister’s life and work.
