Coal Tit in the Winter Sun

"Look at the birds of the air"
                    Matthew 6:26

"Listen to me!
Hear my Song!
The apple-tree's
Where I belong –
Better still
The prunus there,
Where I trill
Loud and clear.
Look at me!
See my breast
Reflect the Sun
From the West
As I dance
And sing to you;
As you glance
And see me true.
Consider me –
 The Master said –
He clothes me,
And I'm always fed."

Lesser Celandine

"Consider the lilies of the Field"
        Matthew 6.28

Long before March Winds were blowing
we pushed up our stems in the grass,
and spread out our petals, all glowing,
astonishing those who would pass.
Did Solomon, in all his glory,
have anything like this to wear?
We praise our Great Maker, His story,
"Consider the lilies ..." He's here ...

The daffodils were here before us,
magnificent, heads held high,
and we, in our littleness, chorus
our joy to the heavens, and cry
'Hosanna', for He goes before us –
Consider His Beauty on High

Painted Ladies

"'Through the mouths of children or of babes in arms ...”
                                Psalm 8.2

In the light of July I watched: them there,
Around the blooms of our buddleia:
Three painted ladies, a joy to behold.
As they fluttered: and flew in the rays of gold.

A toddler once came to Tunbridge Wells
To see his sister; his story tells
Of the Painted Ladies he saw: “Who’s that?"
"That's Jesus' Mummy" - again, “Who’s that?"
The same reply; and more was seen
Of the one who is our heavenly queen.
"O what a lot of
Mummies
Jesus has got!"
