A Tank Full of Amen

Walking my walk
and thinking my thoughts,
I wander wonder
and stop to ponder

What is
my
gotta move
gotta praise
gotta say
yes
word?

Some folks
have the gift
of full throttle
Amen.

They can call it out
in the aisle
like they d drive it
down the highway-
that top down feeling
with the sunglasses on-
and everyone knows-
whoosh-
there goes a soul
who knows the thrill
of freedom
and a full tank of gas.

Economy model
clapping
just doesn t have
the same release.

Under the Walkway, Grand Coteau

Bricks cannot contain
a past that breathes &
a past that hangs humid,
softly singing in the trees.
It is layers deep in the earth here-
where life is dense and freshest and wriggling.
It is a story, a feeling, a touch
of sweet flowered wind;
a residual hint of someone
having just walked by, years
before my grandmother was born.

Feet, Carry Me Home

When I stop
at the end of the day and
take off my tambourine shoes that
jangle my journey to those by my side,
I pray in the quiet
for feet that can swim when
I cross the Jordan; for
feet that can fly
when I am bound and troubled;
for tired feet, dusty with the world feet,
miles worn and still beneath me feet,
to kick up
when I am by your side.
