In Your pregnant Darkness
where I am not yet able to see.
In the fullness of Your Silence
that I sometimes hear.
Your Presence permeates all
with ever deepening love.
I sense Your Presence and
You move me to choose
the greater love.
How pretty Your peace rose and peach dawn!
The half present sun does not yet warm
But its light penetrates all with Presence
Your clouds come down to kiss and caress the land,
Giving nourishment and the power to grow.
Grandmas, Grandmas
Long, long ago in Bavaria and
On the western shore and cliffs of Ireland,
The cold was bitter, penetrating to my bones.
In the Barren there are no trees
To provide firewood to gather
And scarce are places to find bog fuel.
So cold and painful to the bone
It is these rainy, snowy foggy days of winter.
There is no money for the black coal fuel.
Will warmth ever again grace my house and family?
"Ask and you shall receive!"
Lord, give me an inner fire
So I no longer need fuel and heavy blankets.
And so now this warmth and heat
Flashes throughout my being and life
From generation to generation
My neighbors need firewood and blankets
But You, Lord, have put a heat source
Within my very being!
