It is 4.30 a.m. and I awake with the first stirrings of nature and the yogis in our ancient land. The sky is slowly spreading with the suffused, but glowingly vibrant hues of early dawn, as the full moon gracefully bows out. The first cries of the Indian cuckoo reach me from the distance and the fresh fragrance of dew-moistened earth revives my soul.

It is morning…  a new day….
and my whole being is refreshed with new life as my muscles stretch and I leap up...A daily miracle of resurrection!

But today is Easter!

Must I rush to the tomb to prove that it is empty? ...  to assure myself that the Lord is truly risen?

Not necessary, my inner self tells me. There will be many others to pose those questions and reflect on the correctness of the answers. For me, Easter is the promise of wholeness, of integrity of the universal man/woman. I don't need proofs that the body will rise again, because I believe that we never die.

Students of science know that the genetic material is universal and in many cells (bone cells are the best example) it is well-nigh immortal.  Even if, in this body, I must die - "fold up this tent", as St. Paul says -the human race lives on...and so do I, because of this very close connectedness of the whole human family. Doesn't the completed research on the human genome project say as much? (Our DNA differs in less than 2%)...and for those of us who have children, this 'on-going life' of our genes is an ever-present reality.

So, Easter forces us to think again...to think in a different way about life and death.. to stretch our minds and let lie the ego. It is truly the triumph of the Universal Person!

A time to rejoice in life and to welcome the release of this earthly body as it merely moves over!

“Alleluia”, my innermost soul is shouting…. “Awake and feel New Life”
