In the country
where God learned what it meant to be a refugee
....I touched God’s experience ...
...in tender gestures to children who are not one’s own....
...in walking time worn-roads of a town of ageless traditions,
where men patiently till the well-worn soil....

Was it like Bayadeya,
the town where you grew
in age and wisdom,
and not an orphan,
like this boy ?

Did you play, ride a donkey, and go for bread?
(I do wonder with what you made a kite....)
Did you sit by the Nile with friends, and fish and swim,
and learn from old men.... and watch your mother wash and chat
... or did you just sit and dream of home
.....
Are these some of the sights that you saw, my God?
Is today’s life, Jesus the one you lived?
