The mini-labyrinth

The blessing of the Sacred Heart Children's Educational Center last September 17 was a wonderful celebration of God's Providence and the manifestation of Her great love for the children and the families here in Ormoc, Philippines.

Amelia Vasquez rscj, superior of the District, gave an inspiring message after the mass. She pointed out to symbols around the building which speak of the "Heart", the love of God and of God living among us.

The tabernacle depicting the RSCJ logo with the silhouette of Mary at the background is a more graphic way of making the children understand that the first tabernacle was the womb of Mary and it looks like it is embracing the world.

The aquarium in the shape of our RSCJ logo was designed the engineer who was the contractor for the building. He was inspired by what I shared with him about our spirituality.

The mini-labyrinth is the result of an inspiration that came to me when Amelia shared about walking the labyrinth during the meeting on Sacred Heart spirituality that had taken place in Taiwan recently.  Our children of Ormoc love puzzles and mazes.  I tell them that the labyrinth is their journey in life. As they follow the path they come across a narrow path almost a block to the smooth journey (actually this is so because the space is not wide enough but they have to keep going until they get inside the heart of God.

It is interesting to observe that most of the children would hesitate to go in but once they are in, they really become absorbed in the journey.  Nice!

These are some of the features of the educational center, designed so that they speak of what the children will learn and how they will learn.
