15 September: Our Lady of Sorrows
Consecration made by Saint Madeleine Sophie
Holy Mary, Mother of sorrow and of love, we come to offer thee the homage of our heartfelt gratitude for the countless graces which our Society owes to thy intercession. We solemnly acknowledge all that we owe to thy protection and the merits of thy sorrowful heart.
Set thy seal upon thy work, most holy Mother, guide us and all who shall hereafter join us in working for the greater glory of the Sacred Heart of thy Divine Son. Make us worthy of Him by teaching us to imitate the virtues of they heart, so faith fully modeled on His. Give us above all lively faith, true humility and courage which will help us to rise above sorrow and to stand with thee, calm and steadfast at the foot of the cross.
Love gave thee the Cross, grant that the Cross may give us love and may the spouses of the Sacred Heart never know any cross but that of thy Son. May we bear about in ourselves the Cross of Christ, the sufferings of His Passion, and the remembrance of His Wounds. Grant that wounded and bruised and following in His footsteps, we may be lifted above ourselves and consumed with the love of the Cross, and when our last hour has come do thou as our most gracious advocate plead for us.
May the Cross of Christ be our safeguard, His death our strength and our confidence, His grace our consolation and support, and be thou, most holy and sorrowful Mother, the guide, defender and Sovereign lady of this household, which consecrates itself to thee again today, and places itself under thy patronage forever.
