 Prayer rooted in Culture
On the one hand, we don't know how to talk about God in our contemporary culture and, on the other hand, we are saturated with words. We need action and words but at the same time we need to make the Word our own: Jesus is action in self-giving Word. Action without words could be ambiguous, and word without action could be empty. Our world uses and manipulates God in order to justify its choices. We are creating new idols.

 Contemplative Wisdom – a gift
For many, the later years of life bring with them time to pause, to stand and gaze and to be caught up in the marvel of life and the beauty of the world around us. The simple trust in the eyes of a child, the sun's rays caught in a drop of dew, the tiny flower struggling through the cracked concrete of the garden path, or a spider weaving a web of silken strands, all speak of the wonder of God's creation. How often have we passed by unheeding in the rush of life?

 Mater around the world
In 1865, Mother Anna Shannon, then vicar in Louisiana, traveled to Paris where she met Pauline Perdrau; Mother Shannon asked the artist to paint in oils two copies of Mater. She agreed and they were sent to New Orleans in the following year. One of them was destined for St. Michael's where it remained until that house closed in 1932; it was then sent to Clifton in Cincinnati and in 1970 found its way to St. Charles. The other copy is now in Grand Coteau.

“Glorificar al Corazón de Jesús”: la frase aparece en nuestras Constituciones de 1815, desde el Plan compendiado del Instituto, pasando por las etapas de la vida, se repite en los Medios que toma la Sociedad para trabajar en la santificación del prójimo, en el Gobierno de la Sociedad y finalmente en los medios que se señalan para mantener a la Sociedad en el espíritu del Instituto.
