Me llamo Tomás, de sobrenombre “el Mellizo”, y pertenezco al grupo de los que nos fuimos detrás de Jesús desde el primer momento, aunque tengo que confesar que no siempre de buena gana. Yo necesito tenerlo todo muy claro y comprobar las cosas por mí mismo, y eso con Jesús era del todo imposible, porque él nos exigía una confianza absoluta en su persona y en su proyecto, y yo con frecuencia me sentía tentado de dar marcha atrás, o de pedir más garantías de las que él estaba dispuesto a ofrecernos.

So long as the ball that we kick around is made of leather or rubber or some other material, well and good. But unfortunately there are many who kick living footballs, or rather, they make footballs out of other human beings.

I dislike the current understanding of the word 'devotion' as applied
to the Sacred Heart. When we refer to Jesus Christ under the term
Sacred Heart we are referring to the very essence of his being, the
manifestation of the love of a God we cannot see. 'In the Gospel
through his words, his attitudes, his relationships with people, his
way of relating to all created things, we discover his heart wholly
given to the Father and to all people.'(19) .

Un festín en el desierto
Nací en Betsaida hace catorce años y desde pequeño me acostumbré a ver
a mi madre enferma. Alguien me contó que había llevado mal el tiempo
del embarazo, que tuvo un parto difícil cuando yo nací, y que desde
entonces no había conseguido levantar cabeza. La muerte de mi padre la
puso aún peor y por eso, cuando oí a nuestro vecino Andrés hablar de
Jesús y escuché el testimonio de gente curada por él, decidí buscarle
aunque fuera en el último rincón de la tierra, hasta conseguir que
sanara a mi madre.
