Malta’s first saint and the Society of the Sacred Heart
How many of us can claim they have actually known a canonized saint? Some of us rscj in Malta, including the undersigned, can make such a claim! And certainly all the Maltese rscj knew him, at least by reputation, before they entered. For decades before he died in 1962 people were regarding him as a saint, and men and women from all walks of life respected and loved him, and sought his spiritual advice.

When we celebrated our 100 years of the Society in Australia in 1982, there was much pomp and great excitement among the thousands who gathered in St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney.

The MDGs through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching
Caritas Internationalis and the JPIC Promoters (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation) in Rome have produced a new publication entitled Breaking with Business as Usual: Achieving the Millennium Development Goals. What is different about this handy, easily accessible and clear, 29-page booklet is that it looks at the MDGs from the perspective of Catholic Social Teaching using the theological reflection tool ‘See – Judge - Act.’ 

MDG #2: Achieving Universal Primary Education
In Millennium Development Goal #2 world leaders pledged to “ensure that all boys and girls complete a full course of primary schooling” by 2015. Important as this goal is, it does not address the quality of education. The following two resources might be of interest to those interested in concrete actions in relation to education (for example by subscribing to news e-alerts, participating in e-discussions and/or consultations, or joining a global action week).
