On October 16-17, 2006, millions of people around the world set the first ever Guinness World Record by literally standing up against poverty. In schools, parishes, youth groups and homes, a total of 23.5 million people stood up to remind their governments to keep the promises made in 2000 in the Millennium Development Goals. This year it is time to break that record!

On September 21, the world will celebrate once again the International Day of Peace. Maintaining international peace and security is one of the purposes for which the United Nations was created.

This year’s conference is the 60th Annual DPI/NGO Conference at the United Nations. Over 2,000 participants from around the world – NGO representatives and civil society partners – are expected to gather once again at UN Headquarters for this premier NGO event September 5-7, 2007.

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has launched a new global tree planting campaign called Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign.

The International Union of Superiors General (UISG) will have its Plenary Session in Rome, at the Hotel Ergife, from May 6th to May 10th 2007. Some 800 Superiors General from 80 countries are expected to attend the five-day meeting.
